Both the leaders and children are enjoying our second session as Discovery Kidz. We have around 45 children on our roll this year and our average attendance each week is around 33 children. We started our new session as we did last year trying to emphasis to the children how important they are to God’s plan and work, as well as part of the family of Strean. We did this with the help of our special guests (the puppets) who told us the story of David and Goliath.
Our project for the session is very close to all our hearts as we decided to support the children of Mozambique. We have already sent out a box full of toys and enough money for one large bag of clothes and two containers of food to be distributed among the children. We have been amazed at just how much we have raised already this year, and we feel the children have really taken the children of Mozambique into their hearts. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to our figure so far. We would really love to be able to send enough for another bag of clothes and three containers of food, so we would encourage you to continue saving those 20ps.
Before Christmas we learnt about creation and how perfect things were before sin entered men’s hearts, but how even before this, God already had a plan to allow man to come back to him, and that plan was seen when Jesus came to die, and bridge the gap between us and God. We have also enjoyed some great lessons on prayer, looking at how we should pray, why we should pray and when we should pray. At present we are concentrating on some of Jesus’ miracles and what they can teach us.
We enjoyed leading the family service at Christmas and sharing with you the lessons we had been looking at over the Christmas period, and are looking forward to having our Children's Day at our family service in May. BUT before that we have a busy April coming up. On the 6th of April, Discovery Kidz hope to run the Saturday coffee morning at which we hope the children can come and enjoy some face painting, tattoos (don't worry not permanent ones), nail art and possibly some Xbox games. We would encourage you to support this, as all proceeds will go to buying MP3 players for Mozambique as well as the children of Mozambique.
We also hope to take the children to the Big Fun Day again this year as those who went last year really enjoyed the day. This will be held on the 27th April in Ballymena Presbyterian, and we hope enough children will be able to go to fill the coach.
One difficulty this year has been the shortage of a teacher and as a number of teachers plan to retire at the end of this session it is an ongoing concern for September. We would appreciate your prayers in regards to this that God will lay it on the heart of someone to feel this is an area of God’s work they are meant to help in.
We would also ask you for your continued prayer for the children's growth in their faith and relationship with God and for the teachers in their preparations each week.
