LETTER FROM THE MINISTER

Hello,

I am writing to keep everyone up to date with the current situation. We continue to live in lockdown and normal life has been put “on-hold” as we strive to limit the rapid spread of Covid-19 in our world. As a result of this lockdown many people are working from home; some people are unable to work and so have been furloughed or have lost their jobs. For all of us we are being told only to go out when necessary and even then some people have been advised not to go out at all. And in the midst of all this we are not able to meet at church to worship God and enjoy time with each other. The doors are locked, the gates are chained and we as yet have no information on when we might get back in, BUT we are still The Church and we are still a family. We are connected to one another through God and what Jesus has done for us.

As a family we want to help each other in any way we can. During this time if you do need help please contact either myself or your elder. Please remember that we still have a service of worship each Sunday morning at 11am on Facebook. If you search “Strean Presbyterian Church”, you will see our church name and beside it a yellow circle with the words “Let It Shine”. For those not on Facebook, it is also available on YouTube. Again just search “Strean Presbyterian Church” and if you click on the channel with the yellow circle “Let It Shine” all our videos are there. Also Monday to Friday I stream live on Facebook at 9am reading the Bible and praying. Don’t worry if you are not up in time, the video stays on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.

I know that many of you will want to help others in a practical way. So on Wednesday 29TH April from 10am to 12 midday we will be accepting non-perishable food at church for the foodbank (a list of food items needed is at the bottom of this letter). If you want to donate then one gate to the carpark on West Street will be open to allow you to walk in, leave your donation in the shopping trolley and then leave via the pedestrian gate on West Street. We will also have the new “Word For Today” in a box if you want to lift a copy and we will have another box for any Freewill, Mission or Property envelopes that you may want to drop off. The shopping trolley and boxes will be outside the West Street doors at the church office so we are not going inside. Do remember to keep the 2m distance at all times.  Both carparks will remain locked, so please park in the street.

If you would like a copy of “Word For Today” but you will not be able to collect it yourself, please let me know and it can be posted out. My number is 07799552804.

On behalf of church let me say thank you to everyone who has set up a Direct Debit, done a bank transfer or posted cheques into church. We really do appreciate you taking the time to do this. If anyone needs bank details, the Freewill Offering account details are available on the “Latest News” page of our church website or from myself.

In this situation you may feel very alone, anxious or vulnerable. Please remember that even when we cannot feel His presence, God is always with us. Isaiah 41:13 “For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.”

Rev. Jeff McWatters
